[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Considering a move to a 55+ active adult community?  Then you might need to add a new word to your lexicon: Pickleball!  For the past 15 years this new sport has been taking the retirement community athletic scene by storm!

Here’s the basics:

Two, three or four players use solid paddles made of wood to hit a perforated polymer ball over a net.  Think large ping pong paddle and a whiffle ball.

The court is smaller than a tennis court, but the rules are somewhat similar to tennis.  The court size 20 x 44 feet for both singles and doubles.  The upside of a smaller court for retirees, less pressure on the joints than tennis.

The best way to learn the ropes is to attend a game in the company of an experienced player.  Once you see the game it action, it’s much easier to understand. Pickleball is also a great spectator sport, it’s fast-paced and easy to follow.  Thereby creating a great social opportunity for those who are not able to participate as well.

Many active senior communities take their Pickball seriously, with club officers, matching team attire and organized tournaments with other Active Adult Communities.  Witham Real Estate has had the pleasure of hosting several friendly competitions between Four Seasons of El Dorado Hills and Glenbrooke in Elk Grove.  Both of these communities have lovely Pickleball facilities as part of their wide range of recreational options.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
