Our latest guilty pleasure here at Witham Real Estate: Houzz. Have you tried it? I’m obsessed!

Houzz is to home decorating what Pinterest is to crafting. The site has over 3 million photos, all uploaded by home design professionals. I can appreciate the outcome of high-style and a nicely decorated house, but I often just don’t know where to start and I’m a fan of immediate gratification. That’s what makes this site a gold mine. Whether you’re doing a major remodel or just sprucing up, this site is a plethora of do it yourself design inspiration and ideas.

Think of painting your living room yellow? Enter “Yellow Living Room” on Houzz and you’ll see a veritable candy store of ideas appear before your eyes. Want a lush flower bed in the back yard of your new retirement home, look for ideas on Houzz.

The site offers solutions for life’s little problems as well. Thinking of tidying up your pantry or laundry room? Just enter it on Houzz and you’ll get a ton of storage and organizational ideas. You can click on the photos for more information like paint color or info on where to buy items featured.

Often times the ideas presented on Houzz are very high-end and designer inspired. My favorite thing to do is to print my favorite ideas and see how I can put something similar together with treasures from Home Goods, World Market, Target or even the dollar store! My clients in Glenbrooke have many of these retailers right in their Elk Grove neighborhood.

You can organize your Houzz finds on the site in different Idea Books. I am always collecting ideas for my next project. I’m working on ideas for my guest room right now. This site has really helped me pull my house together with ideas and inspiration that I had assumed to be way out of my reach creatively and financially. It’s also the perfect place to get ideas for updating or staging your home in preparation for sale. Let us know what project you start with, but I’ll warn you…. it’s addicting!
